Vélos et bagages

Présentation rapide de nos tricycles couchés.

Nous avons chacun un modèle différent. L’un est un Scorpion Fx de HPVelotecnik (allemand) et l’autre un Trice T de ICE (anglais).

 Les vélos.

Le Scorpion Fx de HPVelotecnik est pliant et le Trice T de ICE, n’est pas pliant mais la fourche arrière peut être ramenée sous le cadre lorsque la roue arrière est démontée. Les deux modèles ont une suspension arrière.

 Les portes bagages.

Scorpion Fx (HPVelotecnik)
En 2013 et 2014 il est équipé d’un porte bagage sur lequel a été ajouté un porte bagage surbaissé. Il peut donc porter quatre sacoches et un ou plusieurs bagages supplémentaires sur le plateau du très robuste porte bagage HPVelotechnik.
En 2015 le porte bagage surbaissé est devenu inutile avec les sacoches Radical Design. Il a donc été supprimé car ses 400 grammes étaient devenus un poids inutile.

Trice T (Ice)
En 2013 et 2014 il est équipé du porte bagage fabriqué par ICE pour ce modèle. Il peut porter deux sacoches et un autre bagage sur le dessus. C’est normalement suffisant mais en cas de besoin il existe des sacoches spéciales vélos couchés qui se fixent sur les cotés du siège.
En 2015 le porte bagage ICE n'était plus indispensable les sacoches Radical Design car l'essentiel du poids des sacoches est supporté par le siège. Le porte bagage ICE a donc été remplacé par un porte bagage classique de vélo droit. Ce porte bagage fixé sur la fourche arrière n'est plus suspendu comme l'était le porte bagage ICE. Ceci n'a cependant pas posé de problème et a permis de gagner environ 500 grammes.

La pliabilité

La pliabilité ne nous a jamais été utile au cours de notre voyage en Asie du Sud Est en 2013 (Thaïlande, Laos, Cambodge). Nous avons quelques fois voyagé en autobus avec nos vélos. Il n’y a pas eu de problème avec les autobus équipés d’une galerie. Les autobus à deux étages (étage inférieur réservé aux bagages) acceptent aussi ce type de vélo mais limitent souvent le nombre de vélos et motos à 4 ou 5. Nous avons demandé une seule fois en Thaïlande si nous pouvions prendre un autobus qui n’avait ni galerie ni deux étages. La réponse a été négative. Pourtant ils entrent sans être pliés dans un coffre d’autobus à condition de démonter le roues et de charger les sacoches séparément dans le coffre du bus. Mais nous avons montré nos tricycles entiers et chargés. Ce n’a pas été un problème pour nous puisque nous avions demandé sans avoir aucunement l’intention ni le besoin de prendre ce bus. C’était juste pour savoir.

Nous avons également demandé à une gare en montrant aussi nos vélos équipés. L’employé nous a dit qu’il n’y avait pas de problème car le train avait un wagon pour les bagages. Il faut charger soit même son matériel ce qui n’est pas un problème. Pour le train aussi c’était pour savoir et nous ne l’avons pas pris.

La suspension

Le Scorpion est équipé d’une suspension arrière à ressort efficace. Le Trice T est équipé d’une suspension arrière polymère. Comme pour le Scorpion la fourche arrière est sur un pivot mais au lieu d’être freinée dans toutes ses possibilités de rotation par un système de ressort à tension réglable elle est libre en rotation autour du pivot. C’est le polymère qui est solidaire de la fourche arrière qui prend appui sur le cadre et qui bloque la rotation de la fourche arrière dans la position convenable. Le polymère s’écrase donc plus ou moins suivant les conditions. Il assure ainsi la fonction de suspension. Il existe trois différentes duretés de polymère à choisir en fonction du poids du pilote et du chargement. Avec un vélo chargé il faut utiliser la couleur verte. Le polymère peut aussi être placé à trois positions différentes. Le changement de position du polymère modifie le débattement et donc le confort.

Les deux types de suspension ont donnés satisfaction.

Nous n’avons pas essayé de tricycle tout suspendu. La suspension avant apporte probablement un supplément de confort mais nous n’avons pas ressenti d’inconfort avec nos tricycles. Il est aussi possible que la suspension avant apporte de la sécurité dans les descentes. Nous ne nous sommes jamais laissés griser par la vitesse dans les descentes et nous n’avons pas eu de grosses frayeurs. Nos tricycles sont pourtant parmi ceux qui ont la plus grande garde au sol et ne sont donc pas des modèles de stabilité.

Les développements

Le Scorpion Fx était à l’origine équipé d’un simple plateau de 46 dents avec manivelles de 170 mm, d’une cassette 8 vitesses 11/32 et d’un moyeu Dual Drive à l’arrière. Avec des roues de 20 pouces les développements s’étageaient donc entre 1,61 et 8,70 mètres. Ce tricycle a été acheté d’occasion ainsi équipé. Après quelques essais en montée avec chargement il est devenu évident que les développements étaient trop gros. Le simple plateau a donc été remplacé par un triple 22/32/42 avec manivelles de 152 mm. Les développements avec ce nouvel équipement s’étagent de 0,77 à 7,84 mètres. C’est dans cette configuration que le Scorpion Fx a fait 4 500 kilomètres en Asie du Sud Est. Le plus petit développement a été très apprécié dans les montagnes et le plus grand développement n’a pas été beaucoup sollicité. Pour le voyage 2014 il a été décidé de simplifier un peu la transmission en supprimant le Dual Drive, en ajoutant un quatrième plateau de 15 dents et en remplaçant le grand plateau de 42 dents par un plateau de 48 dents.  Ce très petit plateau a été soudé par l’intermédiaire du tube aux plateaux de 22 et 32 dents qui sont rivés sur le pédalier SunTour JR. Le dérailleur avant dont la poignée de commande était très dure à manœuvrer a été supprimé et les changements de plateau se feront en prenant à la main le guide chaîne. Pour éviter les déraillements deux flasques ont été installés sur le grand et le petit plateau. Le boitier de pédalier qui avait un axe de 116 mm a aussi été remplacé par un autre avec un axe de 127 mm de longueur. A défaut de trouver d’occasion une roue HPVelotechnik sans Dual Drive la roue arrière est maintenant une roue Catrike de 20 pouces. Les développements s’étagent maintenant entre 0,72 et 6,68 mètres. Le grand plateau de 48 dents ne s'est pas avéré être une bonne idée car je ne l'ai pas utilisé. J'ai donc remplacé le grand plateau de 48 dents par un plateau  42 dents (pédalier 4 plateaux 15-22-32-42 dents). Les voyages 2014 et 2015 seront avec cette configuration et des développements entre 0,72 et 5,85 mètres.
En 2014 nous n'avons rencontré des fortes pentes que sur de courtes distances et le plateau de 16 dents n'a pas été utilisé.
En 2015 les fortes pentes ont été plus fréquentes et parfois longues. Cependant le développement de 1,05 mètre correspondant au plateau de 22 dents et au pignon de 32 dents ont été suffisants. Le plateau de 16 dents n'a donc pas été utilisé mais reste une bonne sécurité en cas de pente "exceptionnelle".

 

Le Trice T était était à l’origine équipé d’un triple plateau de 26/36/46 avec manivelle de 170 mm et d’une cassette Shimano Capréo 9 vitesses 9/32 dents. Avec des roues de 20 pouces les développements s’étageaient donc entre 1,24 et 7,82 mètres. Ce tricycle a été acheté d’occasion ainsi équipé. Les mêmes essais que pour le Scorpion ont conduits aux mêmes conclusions. Les développements étaient trop longs pour les grosses ou longues montées. Le petit plateau de 26 dents a donc été remplacé par un plateau de 22 dents et le gros pignon de 32 dents a aussi été remplacé par un pignon de 36 dents. Les développements avec ce nouvel équipement s’étagent de 0,99 à 7,82 mètres. C’est dans cette configuration que le Trice T a fait 4 500 kilomètres en Asie du Sud Est. Le plus petit développement a été un peu gros dans les grosses montées du nord Laos et le plus grand développement n’a pas été beaucoup sollicité. Pour le voyage 2014 le Trice T repart avec les mêmes développements soit 0,99 à 7,82 mètres.
La configuration ci-dessus concerne les années 2013 et 2014.
En 2015 le Trice T a été aussi équipé d'un pédalier avec manivelles de 152 mm et 4 plateaux (15 - 22 - 32 - 42 dents). La roue arrière reste équipée d'un moyeu Capréo 9 vitesses 9/32 dents. Les développements s'étagent donc maintenant de 0,72 à 7,14 mètres. Comme pour le Scorpion le plateau de 15 dents n'a été utilisé.

Les pneumatiques

Les deux tricycles sont équipés avec les mêmes pneumatiques. Le pneu arrière est un Schwalbe marathon plus 20x1,75 et les pneus avant sont des Schwalbe Big apple 20x2.

Ces pneumatiques ont fait 4 500 kilomètres l’année dernière. Ils sont peu usés et nous repartons avec cette année. Le Scorpion n’a eu aucune crevaison l’année dernière et le Trice T en a eu quatre sur la roue arrière dont trois le premier jour. La cause semble être le porte bagage qui a pivoté vers l’arrière en faisant glisser le pneu sur la jante. La cause de ce basculement du porte bagage est à imputer aux pattes de fixations ICE qui sont assez mal conçues sur ce modèle. Après la troisième crevaison nous avons arrimé le porte bagage au siège avec des sangles ce qui a résolu le problème de basculement du porte bagage. Comme trois crevaisons le premier jour c’est beaucoup nous avons remplacé le pneu arrière par un marathon suprême (tige souple) que nous avions en matériel de rechange. La quatrième crevaison a eu lieu quelques jours après que nous ayons remonté les Marathon Plus. La chambre à air avait encore une fissure indiquant soit un pincement soit un glissement du pneu sur la jante. Nous avons donc monté une nouvelle chambre avec l’ancienne délestée de sa valve et découpée sur le plus grand diamètre par-dessus. Ceci dans l’intention d’intercaler une épaisseur entre la jante et la chambre à air au niveau de la jonction chambre/pneu. Il n’y a eu aucune crevaison pour la suite du voyage soit sur environ 3 500 kilomètres.

 

Les freins

Le Scorpion est équipé de deux freins à disques BB7 à l’avant. Ces freins sont à commande par câble avec des poignées à blocage qui assurent très efficacement la fonction de frein de parking. Ces freins à disques sont très puissants et il faut un petit temps d’adaptation pour ne pas bloquer les roues. Malgré cette efficacité les descentes sur pistes de terre très pentues sont délicates car les pneus avant, prévus pour le goudron, partent vite en glissade. Il faut quelques fois faire des « travers » au risque de se renverser pour ne pas prendre trop de vitesse.

Le Trice T est lui équipé de freins à tambours. Ces freins sont également à commande par câble mais les poignées n’ont pas de blocage. C’est un élastique qui assure la fonction de frein de parking. C’est moins efficace est sur mais tout de même convenable. Les freins à tambours sont moins puissants que les freins à disques mais sont très satisfaisants. Le risque de glissade dans les descentes pentues en terre est le même qu’avec les disques.

 Les sacoches

En 2013 et 2014 le Scorpion est équipé des deux sacoches MSX SL55 (2x20 litres) et de deux sacoches Vaude Acqua Pro Front (2x15 litres). Un sac étanche Ortlieb Dry Bag PD350 (35 litres) pour le matériel léger (matelas mousse et autres) attaché sur le porte bagage. Un sac à dos léger (papiers, porte monnaie pour la journée, carte routière etc..) et un camelback de 3 litres (il faut bien boire) attachés au dos du siège.
En 2015 les 4 sacoches ont été remplacées par une paire de sacoches spéciales vélo couché "Radical Design taille L". Ces sacoches ont une contenance de 70 litres soit l'équivalent des deux sacoches MSX et des deux sacoches Vaude. Leur installation est très rapide puisqu'elles sont maintenues pas des sangles qui reposent sur le siège (une) et sur le porte bagage (deux plus une attache). Le poids de ces sacoches est d'environ 1 Kg (contre environ 4 Kgs pour les MSX et Vaude). Elles ne sont pas étanches mais un traitement maison avec une préparation à base de silicone plus White Spirit améliore les choses (mais n'améliore pas l'aspect des sacoches). Mettre le contenu des sacoches dans un grand sac poubelle approte aussi une sécurité supplémentaire pour le maintien au sec des affaires. Le camelback a été remplacé par une poche à eau de 2 litres. Un petit sac à dos attaché au dos du siège contenait la poche à eau et les documents sécurisés dans un petits sac étanche.

En 2013 et 2014 le Trice T est équipé de deux sacoches RCP WP100 (2x20 litres) et aussi d’un sac étanche Ortlieb Dry Bag PD350 un peu plus chargé car tout le volume de sacoches est un peu juste. Il porte aussi un sac à dos léger et un camelback.
En 2015 comme le Scorpion le Trice T a été équipé d'une paire de sacoches spéciales vélo couché "Radical Design taille L". Le camelback a aussi été remplacé par une poche à eau de 2 litres. Un petit sac à dos attaché au dos du siège contenait la poche à eau et les documents sécurisés dans un petits sac étanche.
Cette nouvelle configuration des bagages a grandement amélioré la stabilité du Trice T qui était précédemment chargé trop haut. Elle a aussi beaucoup diminué le temps de mise en place des sacoches.

Les supports d’accessoires

Afin d'avoir à disposition les appareils GPS et autres chargeurs et appareils photos divers supports "faits maison" ont été ajoutés sur les vélos.
